Lois Baxter was retired Columbus Grove teacher
M. Lois Baxter, 87, died Dec. 17, 2013 at St. Rita's Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. She was born June 26, 1926 in McCutchenville, Ohio, to the late Roy Calvin and May (Powell) Simpson. On June 20, 1948, she married James D. Baxter and he survives.
Lois retired in 1985 from teaching physical education and English at Columbus Grove High School. She had also taught at Morenci Public Schools, Morenci, Mich., and Anthony Wayne Local Schools, Whitehouse, Ohio.
She was a member of Pandora United Methodist Church, Pandora and its Women’s Society. Lois was also a member of the Ohio Retired Teacher’s Association, Putnam County Retired Teachers, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a 1944 graduate of McCutchenville High School and a 1948 graduate of Bowling Green State University and studied at the University of Michigan.
Survivors include a son Donald (Debbie) Baxter of Napoleon, Mich.; three daughters Barbara Sumbry of Cincinnati, Connie (Chet) Boice of Bradner and Deborah Baxter of Findlay; six grandchildren Vernell Sumbry, Robert Sumbry Jr., Cari Boice, Cameron Boice, Brittany Baxter, Ryan Baxter and a great grandchild Chris Wilder.
Lois was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Simpson, and a sister, Betty Goodwin.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pandora United Methodist Church. Rev. Duane Kemerley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pandora United Methodist Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com
