The First Presbyterian Church, Findlay, will conclude its 34th Artist Series Season with a performance of John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit. The emotional choral work will be featured during the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, April 6. First Presbyterian Church is located at 2330 South Main Street, Findlay.
Feel the Spirit will be performed by the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Armstrong and accompanied on the piano by Debra Niswander, Director of Music. The guest soloist is Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle.
Dr. Battle is Assistant Professor of Music at Bluffton University. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University in 2009 and has studied aboard in France; Austria and Manchester, England where she earned a Postgraduate diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music. Feel the Spirit is a cycle of spirituals arranged by John Rutter in 2001 and featuring Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, Steal Away, Deep River, I Got a Robe, Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, and more. The work blends hints of many American jazz-inspired styles, including the music of Gershwin, William Grant Still, and the polyphony of the New Orleans combo.
