Daniel Sommers was a 1973 Bluffton High School graduate
Daniel L. Sommers, Powell, Ohio, died at his home on May 19, 2014. He was a certified prosthetist/orthotist in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 22, 1954, to Dean and Darlyn (Garmatter) Sommers in Bluffton, Ohio, where they still reside. Dan married Debra L. (Anderson) Sommers, also from Bluffton, in 1983. He is also survived by brothers Bill, three nephews, Andrew (Ali), Eric (Amanda), and Ryan; and Tom (Cindy) Sommers, two nieces Jene and Adele, all from the Bluffton area.
Survivors also include his father-in-law, Ronald B. Anderson, Pandora, Ohio, brother-in-law, Dr. David L. Anderson, Seattle, Wash., and many other family members and friends. A brother, Roger, preceded him in death.
Dan graduated from Bluffton High School in 1973. For two years, he served in short-term missions in the Dominican Republic. This experience led Dan into his profession; he received a Bachelor of Science degree in prosthetics and orthotics from New York University, New York. For 25 years, he worked as a certified prosthetist/orthotist, first with Columbus Orthopaedic and later with Hangar Orthopedic.
Dan attended Fellowship Bible Chapel, 151 East Orange Road, Delaware, Ohio. The funeral service will be held May 22 at Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St., at Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio at 10 a.m. Pastor Mike Clapham will officiate the service.
The family will greet visitors following the service. A private family graveside service, led by Pastor Charles Warren, will be held at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fellowship Bible Chapel in Dan’s memory.
