Robert Zimmerman was active in many Beaverdam organizations; was on Bluffton school board
Robert Zimmerman, 84, died at 6 p.m., May 30, 2014. He was born Dec.25, 1929, in Beaverdam to the late Raymond and LaDonna Williams Zimmerman. On Nov. 5, 1950 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Pepple and she preceded him in death on Oct.15, 2008.
Mr. Zimmerman was a farmer. Had been a Township trustee, member of the Bluffton School Board and had been a school bus driver. He was on the Beaverdam United Methodist Church Board, Beaverdam Elevator Board, the board of Ohio Mutual Insurance Co, a member of Farm Bureau and the Gideons. He graduated from Beaverdam High School and attended Miami University.
Survivors include three children, Patricia (Dennis)) Bassett of Columbus Grove, Robert (Carolyn) Zimmerman Jr. of Bluffton, Amy (Kevin) Parthemore of Columbus Grove, 10 grandchildren, Angela (Dennis) Mercer, Jon (Sara) Bassett, Mandy (Barry) Schneck, Nick (Jennifer) High, Elizabeth (Tyler) Brodman, Gayle (Ryan) Lowry, Ross Zimmerman, Luke (Karen) Parthemore, Kala Parthemore, Jesse (Sarah) Parthemore, eight great grandchildren, Madison Bassett, Lauren Bassett, Lily Schneck, Lyla Schneck, Brody Schneck, Tyler Parthemore, Alexa Parthemore, Eleanora Parthemore; two sisters, Wilma Sanyi of Bluffton, and Mary (Melvin) Arthur of Pandora; two sister-in-law Martha Jean (James) Koenig of Spencerville and Suzy Pepple of Carrollton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Noah Michael Brodman.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Charles Warren and William Herr will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Beaverdam. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaverdam Fire and Rescue or Gideons International.
