Labor Day Weekend 5K and Pump 'n Run planned Aug. 30
Competitive and recreational runners are welcome to participate in the annual 5K Run/Walk held by BFR on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The Labor Day weekend event will include a 5K road race/walk, a Pump n Run Challenge and a Fun Run. The 5K course begins at BFR and ends at the Buckeye Park and is a measured 3.1 distance over fairly flat, paved surfaces.
The Fun Run includes 1 lap around the Buckeye Park and starts at the 5K finish line. Race (and fun run) check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K and Pump n Runregistration fee is $20; fun run participation is by donation. Registration is available online through www.getmeregistered.com.
Competitive runners from across the state participate in the BFR Labor Day Weekend run each year. Trophies will be presented to the top male and female runner plus age division winners. The top male and female Pump n Run participant will receive trophies, as well. The Pump n Run adds a bench press component to the day; participants will bench in order to reduce their overall race time.
New runners and walkers receive special treatment as part of the BFR Labor Day Weekend event. First time 5K finishers will be awarded ribbons and have their photos taken. The BFR course provides a safe environment for new participants and a staff volunteer walks the course in order to encourage everyone to finish.
Neighborhoods that are included on the course include: Riley Street, Elm Street and Lawn Avenue. Residents are encouraged to cheer on the racers from their homes from 8:30-10 a.m.. Volunteers are still needed to assist as course directors, water station staff and finish line staff.
