Bluffton moves to 8-0 with sweeps at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Penn. - The Beavers returned to La Roche College to face the final team in their pool, Waynesburg, on Saturday, Sept. 6. Bluffton was able to get everyone in for all three games in their defeat of the Yellow Jackets, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-23.
Leading the Beavers were MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) and JENNY BROWN (St Mays/Memorial) with 11 and 10 kills respectively. LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and KENDRA PARMENTER (Grove City) were right behind them with seven kills each. SARA ROTH (Findlay/ Van Buren) dished out 41 assists and SYDNEY MOHLER ( Lima/Central Catholic) had four aces from the service line.
Defensively, five players helped keep the ball alive. BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City) led the team with 10 digs, Roth followed close behind with nine, Mohler and ERIN HELMS (Arlington) each had eight and Weisgarber also added six pickups. Taking down Waynesburg gave Bluffton the opportunity to face the host school in the championship tilt.
Throughout the final match of the weekend, the Beavers were able to stay on top of the Redhawks to defeat them in straight sets for their second straight weekend tournament championship (25-12, 25-16, and 25-17)! At the service line, McFarlin led the team with four aces. Brown had nine kills and hit .571 for the match. Weisgarber, Roth, and Mohler led the Beavers with 10, nine, and seven digs, respectively. Roth also added 22 assists for the victors.
The Beavers are now 8-0 leading into their home match against local rival Ohio Northern on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.
