Eric Fox leads NCAA D3 in rushing
BLUFFTON, Ohio - A career day for Bluffton senior running back Eric Fox (Brunswick) has the standout Beaver at the top of the nation in rushing yards for NCAA Division 3 after a masterful performance in Salzman Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 6. Fox wowed the opening-day crowd with 221 yards on just 26 carries (8.5 yards per carry), two of which went for touchdowns.
His 45-yard scamper around the left end put Bluffton up 7-3 in the first quarter before a nine-yard run up the middle early in period two made the score 14-13 in favor of the Beavers as it capped a six-play, 75-yard drive. It marked the first time since 2000 (Tyson Goings) that a Beaver has gone over 200 yards on the ground and it is 18th on Bluffton's all-time single-game rushing list.
A First-Team All-HCAC selection in 2013, Fox ran back 10 kickoffs for 335 yards last season. His 33.5 yards per return placed him 2nd all-time for a season at Bluffton. He had a long return of 80 yards and his 1,064 all-purpose yards were 2nd in the HCAC. Fox was also an honorable mention selection for offensive exploits. He led Bluffton with 439 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, while adding 290 receiving yards on 34 catches with two scores, including a 72-yard catch and run against Rose-Hulman on Homecoming.
He will take his talents on the road this weekend when Bluffton travels to Cleveland for a non-conference tilt with Ohio Athletic Conference power Baldwin-Wallace. The Community and Family Day contest with the Yellow Jackets is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
