Ohio Northern downs Bluffton in straight sets

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Quick starts in all three sets propelled Ohio Northern to a convincing sweep of the Bluffton University volleyball team on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014. Bluffton (8-1) fell from the ranks of the undefeated, while Ohio Northern improved to 7-2 on the season following the big rivalry win.
Bluffton was unable to capitalize on its home court support as Ohio Northern dominated in all facets of the match, handing the Beavers their first loss this season (25-19, 25-17, 25-22). The home team went up 11-8 in the second set, but eight straight points by the Polar Bears quashed any hopes for a Bluffton victory.
Offensively, MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) and JENNY BROWN (St. Marys/Memorial) led the team with 10 kills each. Junior SARA ROTH (Findlay/Van Buren) doled out 28 assists and freshman libero SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) picked up 12 digs for Bluffton.
The Beavers travel to Wooster this weekend for the Kilt Classic Tournament. Bluffton opens with Oberlin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12.
