Harold "Skeet" VanScoder was active in many Pandora organizations; owned Skeets' Body Shop for 40 years
Harold "Skeet" VanScoder, 88, of Pandora passed away September 9, 2014 at 4:30 a.m. at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. Skeet was born November 3, 1925 in Pandora to Harry and Caroline Schumacher VanScoder. On September 26, 1959 he married Rosemary Higgins, who preceded him in death on April 21, 2011.
Skeet was the owner of Skeet's Body Shop, Pandora, for 40 years. He was a graduate of Pandora High School. After high school he was a meat cutter at Burry's Market and worked at the Pandora post office. Skeet served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, American Legion Post 616, Pandora, and the Riley Township Fire Department. He served on the board of directors of the First National Bank, Pandora, was an advocate for Transport for Christ, was a member of the Pandora Chamber of Commerce, and received the Pandora Citizen of the Year award.
Skeet is survived by a daughter, Noralu (Jerry) Kahle of Pandora, two grandchildren, Abigail Kahle and Michael Kahle both of Pandora, three sisters, Helen Balister of Pandora, Norma Jean Anspach of Delphos and Ilo (Don) Martin of Pandora, He was preceded in death by sister Kathryn Fruchey and an infant brother, Raymond Edward VanScoder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Fr. Charles Obinwa will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima with military rites. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. A scripture service will begin at 8 p.m. on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Transport for Christ Mobile Chapel, Putnam County Home Health and Hospice, or Hilty Memorial Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
