Bluffton goes to 10-1 with sweeps at Kilt Classic

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Beavers came out ready to redeem themselves following their first and only setback of the season on Wednesday. Bluffton started off the Wooster Kilt Classic Tournament facing Oberlin College. The Beavers won the first set 25-19 and then made a statement, drubbing the Yeowomen 25-13 and 25-11 to finish the match in three.
Sophomore spiker MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) paced Bluffton at the net with 12 kills. KENDRA PARMENTER (Grove City), LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and JENNY BROWN (St Marys/Memorial) followed close behind with eight, seven, and seven kills, respectively. SARA ROTH (Findlay/Van Buren) tallied 31 assists and two aces. McFarlin also added a pair of aces during the opening match. SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/ Central Catholic) anchored the defense with 13 digs.
Following their defeat of the Yeowomen, Bluffton faced a scrappy, tenacious Franciscan team. The Beavers remained disciplined throughout the match to win 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17. Parmenter, McFarlin, and Brown led the team in kills with 10, nine, and eight, respectively. Roth doled out 35 assists and Mohler came up with a match-high 23 digs for the victors. Weisgarber was a force at the net with four block assists while freshman BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) served up three aces during an eight-point run in the third set to clinch the win for the Beavers.
Bluffton plays Muskingum at 10:30 a.m. and Kalamazoo at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
