Letter: Thank you, American Legion, for the town hall flag pole

Note: On Sept. 27 the Bluffton American Legion held a flag pole dedication ceremony at the townhall.
When I looked out the window of my Town Hall office and saw the flag, my eyes teared up. I did not know at the time where it came from but was very grateful and appreciative to see it.
And then I did what any other 51 year old mayor would do… I took a picture of it with my phone and posted it on facebook! I am really touched by the foresight and initiative of the Bluffton American Legion to donate this flag and flagpole to the Bluffton Community.
I am also very thankful that we have the American Legion here in town. I am forever grateful to our troops, and our veterans, for their sacrifice that benefits this entire community. While I may not know first-hand of your sacrifice, I know some from my dad who was a Korean War veteran. I can’t thank you enough.
Recently, on 9-11, one of our local veterans drove around town and checked to see that the flags were half-mast. He shouldn’t have to do that but it’s awesome that he did. Thank you Chad Cupples!
And one last thing, I want to show gratitude to a man who isn’t afraid to step up to the plate and take on various leadership roles. I’ve seen this man active in the Legion and the community at large. Thank you Jerry Cupples for all that you do for the community!
The Bluffton Community will be forever touched by the generosity of the American Legion! Thanks!
Mayor Judy Augsburger
