ANDERSON, Ind. - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team used a late first half goal to lead them to a 1-1 tie against the Anderson University Ravens on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The Beavers moved to 3-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in HCAC play, while the home team stands 6-4-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
The Anderson Ravens were able to strike first as Chloe Hassett knocked in her third goal of the season in the 23rd minute to give the home team a quick lead. However, late in the first half, the Beavers knotted the match on a goal by sophomore Terrill Webb (Kenton) to make it 1-1.
As the second half rolled along, neither team could find the back of the net with a couple of key saves from Bluffton keeper Katie Neeley (Huber Heights/Wayne) who finished with nine total in the contest. The regulation horn sounded with the 1-1 score, and although Anderson outshot the Beavers 5-3 in the overtime periods, the score remained the same after 110 minutes of fervent action.
Bluffton was whistled for seven more fouls (14-7) but AU turned the ball over nine times on offsides violations. Webb led the offense with four shots, including three on frame.
The Beavers return to the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 11 when they welcome Earlham College to the Sears Complex at Bluffton University. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. with a men’s match to follow. Come support your Beavers!
