Volleyball drops Anderson in four sets
ANDERSON, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss at Franklin by dropping Anderson University 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 27-29, 25-21) on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Beavers improved to 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the Heartland Conference, while AU dipped to 8-15, 1-3 in the conference.
Bluffton took the first two sets (25-18 and 25-21) before Anderson battled back, avoiding the sweep with a 29-27 victory in the third. The visitors wrapped up their fourth conference win of the season with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set, avenging a five-set loss at home to the Ravens a year ago.
Junior Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) and sophomore MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) were dialed in when the Beavers hit the court at Anderson, driving home 18 and 17 kills, respectively. McFarlin finished with just two errors for a .395 hitting percentage. Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) and Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) were also in double figures with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Brown blistered the ball to the tune of a .478 hitting percentage.
Junior Sara Roth (Findlay/Van Buren) kept the offense running smoothly as she doled out 57 assists. Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) picked up a team-high 19 digs for the winners. Erin Helms (Arlington) and Weisgarber tallied 12 and 11 digs, respectively, while Parmenter and Becca Tourney (Columbia City, Ind.) both chipped in with 10 digs.
The Beavers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18. Bluffton hosts Hanover College at 2 p.m. in the Sommer Center so come out and support the Beavers!
