A fire of undetermined origin is sweeping through the large Bluffton Precast Concrete Co., building at 8950 North Dixie Highway, south of Bluffton Wednesday afternoon.
It does not appear that anyone is injured.
The Bluffton Fire and EMS was called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. At the time black smoke was billowing hundreds of feet into the air toward Interstate 75. The smoke was visible from the center of town.
During the first 30 minutes of the blaze emergency sirens filled the air in the village as additional units from neighboring departments were called to the scene.
Flames were very visible inside the building even as fire personnel arrived on the scene. The Bluffton ladder truck was called and it is the first time in months that the truck was needed for a fire.
At 4 p.m. crews from Beaverdam-Richland Township and Pandora were arriving at the scene. No doubt additional companies have been called. By 4:15 p.m. Mt. Cory's department was on the scene.
Bluffton's department was already refilling its tanker at 3:45 p.m. from a fire hydrant at South Main and Bentley.
