Volleyball to meet Hanover in HCAC Tourney
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball will take on Hanover College at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, in the Heartland Conference tournament semifinals. The match will take place at Defiance College in the Karl Weaner Center following the 2 p.m. semifinal match that pits No. 5 seed Franklin against No. 1 seed and tournament host Defiance.
Tickets will cost $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students. Children 11 years old and younger will be admitted free of charge. College students, faculty and staff will be admitted free of charge with a current identification card.
Bluffton enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after going 7-2 in the Heartland Conference (22-11 overall). The Beavers earned a first round bye thanks to a three-set sweep of regular-season champion and rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Bluffton dropped a tight four-setter (28-26, 17-25, 28-26, 25-23) to Hanover on October 18 in the Sommer Center.
Hanover, the No. 3 seed in the six-team tourney, advanced to Saturday with a 3-1 victory (25-17, 27-25, 14-25, 25-20) over Rose-Hulman on Wednesday night in the opening round. The Panthers went 6-3 mark in conference action (17-16 overall) during the regular season.
The Beavers will be making their seventh straight trip the Heartland Conference tournament with 2014 being the sixth time in seven years that Bluffton has played in the tournament semifinals. The Beavers advanced to the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2013 with NCAA regional appearances in 2009 and 2013 when Bluffton won the HCAC tournament championship.
Saturday's winner, which is a rematch of the 2013 title contest, will advance to Heartland Conference's championship contest at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, at Defiance.
