Holiday music, elf school, movies, International Ninja Day - all at the library in December
Bluffton Public Library has announced the December program schedule. Programs are open to the public; some require registration. To register, call 419-358-5016, stop at the front desk, e-mail [email protected], or comment on the library’s Facebook page.
Holiday Music and Refreshments featuring local musicians:
Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m. Wendy Chappell-Dick , "Songs of Forests and Thorns; Christmas Music on the Dulcimer”
Dec. 8, 6:30 p.m., Dean Altstaetter and Jim Boedicker, “Christmas Piano and Guitar”
Dec. 15, 6:30 p.m. Dulcimer Gatherin’ and Rainbow Dulcimers.
Chill Zone continues Tuesdays, Dec. 2, 9, 16 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Middle and high School students are welcome to hang out at the library for games, movies and crafts.
Yoga Fit, a yoga-based exercise class, 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Dec. 3, 10, 17 (offered by BFR Sports & Fitness.) Contact BFR to register.
Browsing Ink, Dec. 3, 3:30 p.m., Cinder, Book 1 from the The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. For 6th-9th graders, next installment of story, refreshments.
Bluffton Tot Bop, Dec. 3 and 10, Jan. 7 and 14, 10:30 a.m. This program, for ages 1-5, is a mixture of aerobics, dance, and games to encourage tots to stay active during the winter. Parents or guardians are encouraged to participate. Registration is required.
Tutor Me Paperless, Dec. 3, 10, 17, free service includes one-on-one tutoring sessions on basic subjects regarding computers, tablets, etc. Register for a December time slot-- while they last.
Noon Book Discussion, Dec. 3, conversation about Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. New members must register for this opportunity.
Brain Builders (Lego Club), Dec. 4 and 18, 4:30-5:30 p.m. This program is for grades K-5, and children below the age of 8 years must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required.
International Ninja Day, Dec. 5 Bluffton Anime Club welcomes teens to “get your ninja on” with all things Ninja, e.g. Ninja Knockout, origami challenges, candy sushi and more.
Movie Madness, 10 a.m., Dec. 6, 13, and 20, holiday movies. Polar Express scheduled Dec. 5. Movies rated G or PG.
Peace on Earth: Celebrate Christmas around the World, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. A collaboration with The Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center of Bluffton University. This informative and fun program will feature stories, music, crafts, games, and snacks.
TedxBlufftonPublicLibrary, Dec. 11, 2 p.m., viewing of new TED Talks and conversation.
Author Steve Davis, Dec. 11, Davis will discuss his recent book, Myles Traveled: Stories of My American Journey. Davis coauthored this book with Bill Myles, of Ohio State University. The book signing and chat-with-the-author begins at 5:30 p.m., reading and presentation of the book at 6:30 p.m. Please register for this event.
Santa Paws Storytime, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. Registered therapy dogs Tango and Teddy will listen to stories about dogs and pose for photos with children. Children may also complete crafts and decorate cookies.
Christmas Karaoke, Dec. 19, 4 p.m., Christmas tunes karaoke, prizes awarded.
Santa’s Fire Truck, Dec. 22, 10 a.m.,Bluffton Fire Department and Santa Claus will be at the library for stories and games.
Gluten-Free/Allergy Support Group, Dec. 22, 6 p.m., lower level of the library. Registration not required.
Teen Christmas Movie + Elf School, Dec. 23, 3:30 p.m.
Teen New Year’s Party, Dec. 30, 3:30 p.m.
The library also encourages patrons to stop by to view December’s display case, which will exhibit a local collection of Christmas postcards.
*Note that the library will be closed Dec. 24-27, and will close at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 31, and will be closed on Jan. 1.
