If you want a hickory nut pie for Christmas dinner - order now
The Service Group of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio is sponsoring a Hickory Nut Pie Sale for the Holidays at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.
Hickory nut pies must be preordered by calling Mennonite Memorial Home at 419-358-1015, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Orders will be taken until Friday, Dec. 12t, and the sale is limited to the first 50 pies ordered. The pies are $ 25 each.
The proceeds from this sale will benefit the charitable activities of The Service Group. Pies will be available for pick-up on Friday, Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What makes these pies unique is that the hickory nuts are gathered locally, cracked, hulled, and cleaned by community member, Oliver Lugibihl. All of the 10-inch pies are home-baked and can be frozen until your holiday gatherings. To serve, just thaw the pies at room temperature for four to five hours hours.
