Bluffton University announces January forums
Bluffton University has announced the following forums for January. All forums are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Jan. 6 Art exhibit: Opening of “Stations,” drawings and paintings by Chicago-area artist Jacob van Loon, Grace Albrecht Gallery, Sauder Visual Arts Center. Hours through Jan. 25 are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.
Jan. 6 Forum: “Ebola and Fear,” by Dr. Ross Kauffman, assistant professor of public health at Bluffton, 11 a.m., Founders Hall
Jan. 9 Colloquium: “Oppressor, Oppressed, Bystander, Ally: Theatre for Social Change and Identity,” by Dr. Melissa Friesen, professor and chair of theatre and communication at Bluffton, 4 p.m., Stutzman Lecture Hall, Centennial Hall
Jan. 13 Forum: “Planting Seeds of Faithfulness: Why Christian Liberal Arts Education (Still) Matters,” by Dr. Susan Schultz Huxman, president of Conrad Grebel University College, Waterloo, Ontario, 11 a.m., Founders Hall
Jan. 20 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Forum: “The ‘Moral Courage’ Needed to Live Nonviolently,” by Sister Paulette Schroeder, nonviolence activist and Sister of St. Francis, Tiffin, Ohio, 11 a.m., Founders Hall
Jan. 27 Forum: “Lies My Teacher Told Me and How to See Through Them,” by Dr. James Loewen, professor emeritus of sociology, University of Vermont, 11 a.m., Founders Hall
Jan. 29 Artist Series: Cantus, an all-male, a cappella vocal ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Yoder Recital Hall. Reserved seats are $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and non-Bluffton students and $10 for children ages 6-13. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free. Tickets are available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu or at the box office at the Marbeck Center information desk.
Jan. 30 Colloquium: “Burning 350 Gallons of Gas to Learn More about Global Warming,” by Dr. Daniel Berger, professor of chemistry at Bluffton, 4 p.m., Stutzman Lecture Hall, Centennial Hall
