Sheerer named HCAC Player of Week
February 16, 2015
BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University freshman Macey Sheerer (Bucyrus) has been named the Heartland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her work on the hardwood in wins over MSJ and Rose-Hulman last week. It marks the second time this season that the Beavers have had a women's basketball player honored, following junior Taylor Whitaker (Mansfield/Ontario) who claimed the honor for her work over Christmas break.
The freshman scored 18 points with 12 rebounds and four steals, racking up her second double-double of the season in a crucial 59-49 win at Rose-Hulman Saturday. That victory assured Bluffton of its second straight berth in the Heartland Conference tournament which will get underway next Tuesday or Friday.
For the week, Sheerer averaged 15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the field. Bluffton (16-7, 11-5 HCAC) is set to wrap up its regular season schedule on the road against Earlham and Transylvania this week. The Beavers travel to Richmond, Ind., for a battle with the Earlham College Quakers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
