Ralph Rammel: 1922-2015; well-known for creating rugs on the Senior Center loom
Ralph C. Rammel, 92, of Bluffton died at 6:43 p.m. Feb. 24, 2015, at Bluffton Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Ft. Recovery to the late John and Clara Homan Rammel. On Feb. 14, 1947 he married Geneva Blaksley who preceded him in death on April 24, 1990.
He retired from the Nickel Plate/Norfolk & Western Railroad. He was a past board member of the L.E. & W. Federal Credit Union and a member of the Bluffton Senior Citizens where he was a past board member and for over 25 years worked the loom making rugs. Ralph helped is wife in her decorating shop. He enjoyed woodworking and made picture frames and miniature furniture. He was a graduate of Ft. Recovery High School.
Survivors include a son, Norman (Sandy) Hochstettler of Harrod, five grandchildren, Norman W. Hochstettler, Ginger (Dan) Radcliff, Bruce (Marsha) Hochstettler, John (Heather) Hochstettler, Trish (Jon) Pickens, six great grandsons, seven great granddaughters, one great great grandson, one great great granddaughter, and a sister, Dorothy Ortlip of Mt. Hume, Ark.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Eugene Rammel and three sisters, Lucille Matchett, Dolores Reed and Thelma Brooks.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. Rev. Jon Pickens will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Online condolences may be expressed at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
