Keith Moyer, Mt. Cory HS grad, received Salvation Army's highest civilian award
A. Keith Moyer, 87, of Bluffton died at 7:52 p.m. March 7, 2015 at Bluffton Hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Bluffton to the late Floyd and Alice Steiner Moyer. On Nov. 22, 1952 he married Harriett Burkhart and she survives.
He was a retired professor and assistant director of student housing a the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Bluffton.
Community service was important to Keith and he was active with the Downtown Rotary Club, Southwestern Regional Food Bank, both of Madison and was president of the Madison Salvation Army board for 17 years where he received the Others Award, which is the Salvation Army's highest civilian award. He was one of the original founders of the Bethel Horizons Church Camp. He was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School, Bluffton College and Ohio State University.
Survivors also include nieces and nephews, Mark (Becky) Moyer, Michelle (Janie Carlini) Moyer, Mary Ann (Greg) Ring and Anjanette (David) Kovacs. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Moyer, a nephew, Jeff Moyer and a niece, Rachel (Mike) Osborne.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the English Lutheran Church, Bluffton. Rev. Kevin Mohr will officiate. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery, Mt. Cory.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton and at the church one hour prior to the service .
