May 12 invitation to contra dance; performance in town hall by local musicians
Silver Threads among the Gold, a group of Bluffton-area musicians, will perform at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, in the next Bluffton Town Hall Concert Series, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick.
The Bluffton Cultural Affairs Committee sponsors the series. The program is free and open to the public.
Musicians include Jan Wiebe, Steve and Monica Harnish, Teri Friesen, Betty Sommer, Bruce Chesser, Ray Person, Jason Frisch and Chappell-Dick.
Musical instruments used in the program include strings, guitar, flutes and whistles.
“We will have a professional caller to teach the dances and talk us through the moves,” said Chappell-Dick.
She provided the following additional information about contra dancing:
• any age that can skip or shuffle can contra dance.
• contra dancing isn’t square dancing; it’s much simpler.
• no partner necessary.
• kids can come (and they’ll love it).
• no experience necessary.
• you can come just to watch if you’d like.
