Dennis Morrison - great choice for Lions citizen of the year
Things don’t always go the way you wish.
The Icon took a vacation in late April and we missed the Bluffton Lions Club Citizen of the Year presentation.
Here’s our belated note of appreciation to Dennis Morrision, recipient of the club’s 2014 citizen of the year award.
Morrison's involvement in the community touches countless organizations.
• As a Lions he has chaired the Wheels Festival for the past five years.
• He was active in the 2011 Bluffton sesquicentennial celebration
• He is a volunteer for the Bluffton Blaze of Lights.
• As a member of the Bluffton American Legion has has served as the post's public relations officer for the past five years, and he chairs the Boys' and Girls' State Committee.
• He is a volunteer at the Allen County Historical Museum, spending more than 800 hours as a docent, working with volunteers at the Christmas Tree Festival and presenting historical talks.
• In addition to his chairing Wheels, he is food chair of GOBA's visit to Bluffton where he is in charge of overseeing feeding 2,500+ bicyclists.
• Morrison is president of the Eagle Creek Historical Organization and the Black Swamp Metal Detecting Club.
According to Bob Croft of the Lions, "Denny was not selected just because of these and other community activities. If something needs to be done in Bluffton, Denny generally can be convinced that he is the person who can get it done."
Morrison is a 1965 Bluffton High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970. After his dischange he was employeed at Ford Motors, Lima. He and his wife, Donna, live in rural Bluffton.
