Look at all the August BFR program selections
Several August activities are available for youth and adults at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Joseph Beagle, director.
For Youth
Youth flag football league signup is underway. Play is from Aug. 29 through Oct. 9. Registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 14, and the cost to play is $55. Players will receive flags and an NFL jersey once they are registered through USA Football.
Registration can be online, and must be done twice:
• Register first through the BFR
• and sign your child up through the NFL FLAG Association through USA Football at the following website http://www.nflflag.com/form/player.
Persons will only be asked to pay through the BFR registration.
Art Explorer Camp registration is open for youth from Kindergarten through third grade. The camp is held Thursday and Friday, Aug. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to noon at BFR. Campers will make at least five art projects to take home. Also each day will include a snack and drink. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members.
Fall U6 soccer league registration is underway. Children who have turned 4 but are under 6 by Aug. 1 may register. Parents will coach teams. This is an introductory soccer skill league, teaching basic foot skills and game play. Games will be small-sided without a goalkeeper. Open registration takes place Tuesday, Aug. 4, and can take place anytime at BFR.
For Adults
Signup is underway for an overnight softball tournament held in Cairo on Friday, Aug. 14. Games start at 7 p.m. Cost per team is $200 and the registration deadline is Saturday, Aug. 1. Players must be 18 or older by June 30. At the registration, teams must provide payment and a team roster.
Registrations are being accepted for an adult men’s basketball league. Registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 14. Play will begin Monday, Aug. 17, with games at 7 and 8 p.m. at BFR. At the registration, team must provide payment and a team roster. Players must be 18 or older by Aug. 1. OHSAA rules will be used in the league.
BFR will host a best-of-three adult coed sand volleyball tournament Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Bluffton University sand volleyball courts. Games begin at noon.
Teams must have at least three women on the court at all times. Rally scoring takes place and team members must be 18 as of Aug. 1. Cost per team is $100 and the registration deadline is Aug. 15.
BFR will hold a Harlan’s chicken barbecue from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, in the BFR parking lot. The barbecue is a fundraiser for the BFR turf project for the gym and arena. Tickets are $10 each. Each meal includes one-half chicken, potato salad, green beans and a roll.
BFR is accepting registrations for this year’s Labor Day 5K, held Saturday, Sept. 5. This year’s race starts at 9 a.m. A kid’s fun run and walk is at 10 a.m.
Age groups in the run are: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60 and up.
Runners who pre-registered by Aug. 29 pay $25 and receive a t-shirt ($20 with no t-shirt). Kid’s run registration is $5.
Registration fee is $25 with no shirt, after Aug. 29 and on race day. Race day registration starts for the 5K at 8:30 a.m. and for the fun run at 9:30 a.m.
