BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team welcomed Ohio Wesleyan to the Sommer Center to kick off the 2015 season on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The home team struggled to get things going in the first set and ended up losing 29-27 in a back-and forth battle.
After they got the butterflies out of the way, the Beavers rolled on to take the next three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-23). Leading the Beavers offensively was JENNY BROWN (St. Marys/Memorial) with 17 kills and a monstrous .483 hitting percentage. Fellow senior KENDRA PARMENTER (Grove City) added 16 kills (.265) and LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) chipped in 10 spikes out of the middle (.438) for the victors.
SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) and ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) paced the team with 13 digs apiece, Mohler also chipped in four aces. Freshman setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) finished the match with 48 assists. Coach Yarnell stated “This was a good first match against a very solid Ohio Wesleyan team. We have a laundry list of things to work on, but plenty of positives as well.”
The Beavers host the Sommer Center Spiketacular this weekend as play will begin Friday at 7 p.m against Augustana and continue on into Saturday at 10 a.m. (Heidelberg) and 2 p.m. (Depauw). Come out and support the Beavers as they welcome a star-studded field once again!
