COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. - On day two of the Colorado College Invitational, the Beavers first matchup was against the #17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. The Beavers came out strong in set one, winning 25-23 and tallying 12 kills despite hitting .152. The Warhawks responded with a vengeance in set two, hitting .400 en route to a convincing 25-16 victory.

With both teams tied at one set apiece, it was a fight to the finish. Unfortunately for the Beavers, Bluffton could not pull it out as Whitewater scored the last three points to close out a 25-23 win. The Warhawks wrapped up a 3-1 weekend with a 25-20 victory in set four.

The two seniors paced the Beavers. Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) hammered home a match-high 15 kills and Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) was right behind with 12 kills. MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) finished the match with eight kills, while Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and Becca Tourney (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) both tallied six.

Defensively for the Beavers, Becca Tourney led with 15 digs, while Erin Weisgarber  (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) both added 11 digs. Weisgarber also handed out 41 assists.

After a 30-minute break, Bluffton took the court to face the 13th-ranked Colorado College Tigers. The Beavers struggled with a slow start, falling 25-10 in the first set. Bluffton made adjustments in set two, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Tigers who took control of the match with a 25-21 win. The Beavers went down 25-15 in the third set as host Colorado capped a perfect 4-0 weekend. 

Bluffton was paced offensively by Kendra Parmenter with nine kills and Lauren Weisgarber with eight kills, hitting .467 on the match. Erin Weisgarber dished out 20 assists. MacKenzie McFarlin led the Beavers defensively with 10 digs, while the Weisgarber sisters and Sydney Mohler both chipped in with six pickups. From the service line Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) and MacKenzie McFarlin both finished with two aces.

After a long weekend the Beavers are 3-5 on the season and they will be heading back to Ohio tomorrow. Bluffton returns to action a little closer to home when it travels to Ada to play at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, Sept. 16. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
