Talks to address climate change, supercomputing at university Forum
Climate change will be the focus of a Bluffton University Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Yoder Recital Hall.
At the same time, in the first installment of a new program highlighting student research, Bluffton student Daniel Piero will discuss his supercomputing internship in the Musselman Library Reading Room.
Both presentations are free and open to the public.
The forum will feature Dr. Andrew Jorgensen, associate professor of chemistry and environmental sciences at the University of Toledo. He will explore knowledge and controversy about climate change in his talk, “Climate Change Disruption: How Do We Know? What Can We Do?”
Piero, meanwhile, will relate how he applied principles and powers of supercomputing to scientific, mathematical and engineering problems during his recent internship working with the Blue Waters supercomputer at the University of Illinois.
The Medina, Ohio, resident and 2015 Bluffton graduate Matt McCoy were among 20 students nationwide who were selected for the internship last year.
Piero will kick off a program that will thereafter be held on the first Tuesday of the month. Bluffton students will share discoveries they have made through research or an internship during their “First Tuesday in the Library” presentations.
