RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton men’s soccer team battled for most of the contest, but could not overcome an early goal in suffering a 1-0 loss at the hands of Earlham College. The win pushed the Quakers to .500 at 5-5 (2-1 HCAC). The Beavers dropped to 0-11 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.
In the 17th minute, the Quakers took what was just their third shot of the match, but one that found the back of the net from Nicholas Dey with an assist from Yuki Adams to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Beavers were outshot 10-3 the remainder of the stanza, but held the Quakers to that solo score at the break. The visitors battled throughout the final half as well, but were unable to net the equalizer in a 1-0 defeat.
Earlham was able to outshoot the Beavers, 20-5, but only 6-1 on frame, while the Beavers more than doubled the Quakers in fouls, 11-5. Bluffton was led by Blake Drewes (Arcbhold) with two shots. Keeper Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, PA) finished with five saves in the disappointing setback.
Bluffton hits the road again on Wednesday, Oct. 14, as the Beavers take on Manchester University at 4 p.m. The next home contest is set for the following Wednesday, Oct. 21, against the rival Defiance College Yellow Jackets at 3:30 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers!
