Tickets are available for Bluffton University’s production of “Smash,” a British comedy of manners by Jeffrey Hatcher.

Dr. Melissa Friesen, a professor and chair of communication and theatre at Bluffton, will direct the show, being staged at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29-31 and at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall. Reserved tickets, $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens (65 and over) and non-Bluffton students, are available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu or at the Marbeck Center information desk between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily.

Set in 1910 England, the play centers on Sidney Trefusis, a millionaire socialist who leaves his bride on their wedding day because he fears his passion for her will get in the way of his plans to overthrow the British government.

Sidney vanishes "underground"—disguising himself as a common laborer called "Mengels"—and infiltrates Alton College, a girls' school where well-bred young women are "fitted and fatted to be put on the marriage market."

His plan: Take over the school and plant the seed of radical socialism in the fertile brains of the future consorts of cabinet ministers and kings. What he doesn't plan on is Agatha Wylie, a rabble-rouser who falls hopelessly in love with both Sidney and his politics, and just happens to be his deserted wife's cousin.

Love triangles, mistaken identities, Marx, Engels, pistols and the proletariat jostle for position in this adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s comic novel, “An Unsocial Socialist.”

Cast members include Alex Parker, a senior from Alger, Ohio; Amanda Bartel, a senior from Iowa City, Iowa; Meghan Gibson, a first-year student from Pandora, Ohio; Brianna Lugibihl, a senior from Gomer, Ohio; Brista Drake, a first-year student from Richwood, Ohio; Jena O’Brien, a first-year student from Toledo, Ohio; Lucas Augustine, a junior from Wawarsing, N.Y.; Theran Carroll, a junior from Elida, Ohio; Seth Regula, a first-year student from Jackson Center, Ohio; and Christopher Brenner, a sophomore from Defiance, Ohio. Another student, Caitlin Haab, a first-year student from Normal, Ill., is the stage manager.

Mervin Schrock and Joan Bauer, both of Findlay, Ohio, are the technical director and costume designer, respectively.
