Several Bluffton connections in Oct. 18 Maple Crest piano-violin recital
Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Bluffton, will host a piano-violin recital, open to the public, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, in its patio room.
The program will include a range of music from classical to arrangement of hymns and other well-known works.
Performing on piano is George Bixler of Orrville. He is a Bluffton College graduate and former student of Jean Szabo, Maple Crest resident, and the late James Bixel. He sister, Phyllis Bixler, is a Maple Crest resident.
Bixler began playing piano at age 5. He is a musician with a wide variety of musical interests. He has performed in solo and ensemble settings, including recitals in Ohio and Pennsylvania, The Messiah, An Evening with the Piano, weddings, and many other church and community venues. He is known for his piano hymn arrangements for worship settings.
Bixler is executive director/CEO of OrrVilla Retirement Community in Orrville. He and his wife, Anita, have three married sons and eight grandchildren.
Amy Glick will perform on violin. She is a well-known soloist in northeastern Ohio.
Glick performs extensively as an orchestral player, chamber musician and soloist. She holds degrees from the Manhattan and Eastman Schools of Music, where she studied with Burton Kaplan and Camilla Wicks. She studied chamber music with members of the American String Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio, including a master class at Steinway Hall in New York City.
She has served on the faculties of the Lucy Moses School for
Music and Dance, the David Hochstein Memorial Music
School, the Brevard Music Center and Central Christian High School, Kidron. She is a member of the Akron Symphony and Akron Baroque.
She and her husband and four children live in North Canton.
