Chappell-Dick earns All-America award at NCAA national cc championships
Hannah Chappell-Dick, Bluffton, a senior at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, VA(Bluffton, Ohio/Bluffton) finished 17th at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships, becoming EMU's first women's NCAA All-American. Chappell-Dick set a new PR with a time of 21:38.5, just 15 seconds behind the first place winner.
For Chappell-Dick, the effort capped a great season where she won the ODAC Championship and finished second in the South/Southeast Regional race. She stood 77th at the 2k point of the race. Two-thirds of the way through she was on her way up and was just seven seconds off the lead. Coming into the home stretch, Chappell-Dick was even with MIT's Maryann Gong, a familiar opponent from last spring's trips to the national track meets. Gong held the edge by three-tenths of a second, with Chappell-Dick holding off six more runners who were within a second of her.
