CPT director to speak at MLK Day forum Jan. 19
Sarah Thompson, Executive Director of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), will present her speech titled “Moving Toward Conflict” for Forum at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 in Founders Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Drawing on cues from Martin Luther King, Jr., the peace-building activist shows how conflict is intrinsic to the work of justice and peace. Thompson will focus on how to stand up to for what one believes in, even when it involves interacting in conflict with others. Her presentation will contain stories and tips on how to be a person that is not conflict-avoidant but can handle difficult conversations and face the challenges of this day and age.
Thompson graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in 2011 and from Spelman College with majors in Comparative Women’s Studies and International Studies. She travels extensively for CPT to build partnerships in order to transform violence and oppression.
This will be the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Forum for the 2016 academic school year.
