Shirley Kirk had volunteered at Bluffton Hospital and Et Cetera Shop
Shirley J. Kirk, 88, of Ottawa, died at 3:25 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.
She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to the late Gordon H. and Gertrude (Spencer) Hosmer. Her step-father, Minor "Mac" McDougle is also deceased.
On June 1, 1947 she married William C. "Bill" Kirk at the First Baptist Church in Lima. After 57 years of marriage, he iedy on April 2, 2004.
Shirley is survived by her three children: Sharon (Jim) Phillips of Greensboro, N.C., Tom (Debbie) Kirk of Goshen, Ind., Melanie (Louie) Stokes of Ottawa; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a brother: Lynn (Wilma) McDougle of Pickerington and a special sister: Erne Edwards of Kettering.
She was preceded in death also by a brother: Burdette McDougle; a sister: Cameo Dudgeon and a special sister: Alice Gratz.
Shirley graduated from Harrod High School in 1945. She retired from Elida Schools. Shirley was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ottawa; the Red Hat Gadabouts and the Bluffton Poinsettias Club. She volunteered at Bluffton Hospital and the Et Cetera Shop in Bluffton.
A funeral service was February 4, 2016 at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, with Rev. Dennis Coates officiating. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials made to the Putnam County YMCA Scholarship Fund.
