Judith Greavu's sculpture wins Florida competition
Bluffton artist Judith Greavu, associate professor emeritus in art at Ohio Northern, is the winner of the 2016–17 Ocala, Florida, Outdoor Sculpture Competition.
Her winning sculpture, titled “Tri Bio, was installed last week in Tuscawilla Park in Ocala.
The competition received over 100 entries from across North America. A selection jury comprised of local community and art organization representatives selected only 10 artists to advance in the competition and travel to Tuscawilla Park for a 20-month exhibit in honor of the park’s centennial anniversary.
The Ocala Outdoor Sculpture Competition serves a catalyst for rejuvenation of Tuscawilla Park and the surrounding redevelopment area by providing opportunities for self discovery, art education, community gatherings, and the celebration of creativity.
The competition is executed through a partnership between the Appleton Museum of Art, City of Ocala, Fine Arts for Ocala, and the Marion Cultural Alliance.
Greavu taught at Bluffton University and retired from Ohio Northern University where she was associate professor in the department of art & design from 1985–2005.
Greavu’s works have been shown in numerous venues around the country. She has presented from Michigan to Florida and throughout Ohio, including being selected for “Spineless Wonders: Invertebrates as Inspirations,” an exhibit celebrating the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species.
Locally, she constructed a drinking fountain for the Village of Bluffton, large sculpture commissions for Tiffin University and the Inniswood Botanical Gardens, and her Reef Installation was one of the works in the citywide Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize exhibition in 2010.
In 2011, she was honored with a retrospective exhibit at ArtSpace/Lima.
