Daylong conference aimed at mindfulness for women April 9 at university
Women can find potential sources of inspiration Saturday, April 9, at the Bluffton University Women’s Council “Women Enriching Women” conference sponsored by Bluffton Hospital and Blanchard Valley Health System.
The conference will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 3 p.m. Registration is available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu. Cost is $45 per person or $40 per person for two or more registrants who sign up together before March 25. Lunch is included in the cost. For more information, contact Julia Szabo, director of alumni engagement at [email protected] or at 419-358-3245.
The conference titled “Mindful Living: Moment by Moment” will feature Dr. Lorie Thomas, a leader in women’s health in Northwest Ohio and Michigan for minimally invasive robotic gynecological procedures. She will share “SOS: A Distress Call to Save Ourselves.” This session will take you through the various chemical and physical reactions that occur in our bodies as a direct consequence of unmanaged stress.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Terri Brenneman, a clinical psychologist who specializes in the assessment, treatment and promotion of behavioral health and uses mindfulness-based cognitive therapy skills to assist individuals. Dr. Brenneman will explain the benefits and implementation of mindfulness during her presentation “The Practice of Mindfulness.”
After lunch, Dr. Brenneman will present “Mindfully Engaging the Body and Senses” where she will coach the attendees on how to mindfully engage their bodies and senses.
Participants will then choose from five different mindfulness activities to practice.
· Nature walk and outdoor prayer labyrinth
· Creating colorful images while listening to music
· Light Yoga with Karen Kline
· Art exhibit by Anita Lehman
· Conversation and active listening with a friend
