Grace Albrecht Gallery to showcase “Making My Way” by Gregg Luginbuhl
The Grace Albrecht Gallery will host an exhibit by Gregg Luginbuhl, professor emeritus, titled “Making My Way.” The exhibit opens April 11 and runs through May 8. The gallery is located in Bluffton University’s Sauder Visual Arts Center.
The exhibit is a retrospective, featuring work by the artist over a period of 50 years. The artist will be present during a reception from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 7 in the Sauder Visual Arts Center.
The public is invited to the exhibit and the reception free of charge. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Luginbuhl has exhibited pottery and ceramic sculpture in more than 200 regional and national exhibitions. He has received numerous awards, and his work is included in five Ohio Museum collections.
An installation of eight ceramic plates with modeled imagery “The Creation Series” and three bronze sculptures: “Jonah and the Whale,” “The Last First Draft” and “Touching Home” are permanently displayed on the campus of Bluffton University.
Luginbuhl received a Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from the University of Montana in 1975, following a B.A. in art from Bluffton in 1971.
He served on the board of Ohio Designer Craftsmen for many years and was president of the board from 1999 to 2001. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Ohio Designer Craftsmen in 2015.
Luginbuhl retired in 2014 after 38 years of teaching university level art. He was first tenured at the University of Findlay, teaching there from 1976-84, before returning to Bluffton University.
He served 30 years at Bluffton as professor of art and chair of the art department. He was named professor emeritus during commencement exercises in the spring of 2014.
He currently operates a studio gallery in Bluffton, Ohio, Gallery 323, which features his functional ceramics, ceramic sculpture and consigned artwork from nine regional artists.
The show will also be on display at ArtSpace/Lima June 12-July 23, 2016.
