Hannah Chappell-Dick earns return trip to Saturday's DIII finals
Hannah Chappell-Dick earned a return trip Saturday's finals of the 1500m at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Eastern Mennonite All-American finished second in her heat of the 1500m to punch an automatic qualifier ticket to the finals.
She ran in the front half of the 11-woman pack before pulling away with leader Emily Gapinski of St. Thomas (Minnesota) to clock a time of 4:34.03. Her best time this season is 4:28.62. Gapinski crossed in 4:33.75.
Based on her second-place finish in the first of two heats, Chappell-Dick will run out of the No. 4 spot in the finals.
Saturday's 12-woman finals will be run at 2:35 p.m. (Eastern), with the top eight earning All-America status. Chappell-Dick took third at last year's national meet. The past two seasons the senior has also finished second in the indoor mile, which is the indoor counterpart to the 1500m.
The 2016 NCAA National Championships are being held in Waverly, Iowa, hosted by Wartburg College.
