Chamber's map project created to help visitors find their way around town
Have you seen the maps?
Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce recently installed the second of several Bluffton maps created in an effort to help visitors find their way around town.
More maps are in the works. These will be placed in different areas of Bluffton. Each map is full color and is three by two feet.
THE MAP ATTACHED TO THIS STORY IS ONE OF THE “WORKING” VERSIONS FROM THIS PAST WINTER. THE MAP HAS BEEN UNDATED SINCE THIS WINTER.
You will find the first two maps in front of the Bluffton town hall at 154 N. Main St., and at Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road.
The map project has been in the works for several years. In 2014 chamber members had a brainstorming session during a chamber breakfast.
At the session, members were asked to list Bluffton needs. Among the important needs that came to the top included maps, signage and directions around town for visitors.
From that cue, the chamber embarked on the map project. Isaac Schumacher, then a Bluffton University senior, created a downtown map and Fultz Sign Company, a chamber member, printed it and created map stands.
The maps include sponsors listed to help pay for the project. Each map lists and identifies over 80 locations (including downtown businesses).
Although the location of additional maps is yet to be decided, one possible location is in the village park. The maps are created to be updated every other year, as businesses on Main Street change.
