NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Senior Blake Drewes (Archbold) headed in a Corbin Knedler (Forest/Riverdale) corner kick as the horn sounded for a stunning 1-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago on a beautiful Saturday, Sept. 3. The goal also handed James Kusak his first collegiate victory as a head coach! Bluffton evened its record at 1-1, while Concordia dropped its first contest of the season.
Defense was the story of the afternoon as the first 32 shots of the day added up to a scoreless tie until Drewes hit paydirt with less than one tick remaining! The Beavers finished with an 18-15 edge in shots as well as a slim 8-7 margin on corner kicks.
Senior Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) paced the offense with four shots, while Drewes and freshman Ezekiel Davis (Columbus) added three attempts each. Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, Penn.) earned the shutout after fending off five Concordia shots. Knedler collected his first assist when Drewes took advantage of his corner kick!
Bluffton will return to North Manchester, Ind., on Sunday, Sept. 4, looking to go over .500 when the Beavers take on MacMurray at 1 p.m.
