McFarlin earns HCAC Player of Week honors

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University standout MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week after helping the Beavers to a 3-1 mark at the 4th annual Sommer Center Spiketacular. It marks her third career HCAC Player of the Week honor, including two as a sophomore in 2014.
The senior captain hit .264 with 65 kills (3.82 KPS) as Bluffton went 3-2 on the week. McFarlin was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend. She helped the Beavers take down Heidelberg for just the second time since 2000. McFarlin fired five aces, picked up 26 digs and was in on seven blocks for the week.
McFarlin knocked down career kill 1,000 at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday night and she continued to pile them up in the Sommer Center Spiketacular, moving up to 12th on the career list with 1,056 heading into the Wooster Kilt Classic. The 2014 Heartland Conference MVP leads the Beavers with 99 kills and 111.5 total points this season.
Bluffton will return to competition this weekend at the College of Wooster for the Kilt Classic, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. The Beavers open against host Wooster before a 5:30 matchup with Franciscan.
