Volleyball drops four-setter to ONU

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team welcomed the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears to the Sommer Center on a hot Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. The Beavers came out sluggishly as ONU dominated the first two sets for a quick 2-0 lead (25-13, 25-19).
Bluffton turned up the heat in the third thanks to flurry of Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) aces that helped the Beavers roll off nine unanswered points for a 17-9 lead. The home team coasted in with a 25-17 victory forcing a fourth set. ONU returned the favor and closed out the night with a convincing 25-11 victory. Bluffton slipped to 9-5 on the season while ONU improved to 10-3 with the victory.
Senior LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) led all hitters with 14 kills for a .321 hitting percentage. Fellow captain MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) also was in double figures with 11 kills against the Polar Bears.
Junior libero Sydney Mohler picked up a team-high 24 digs and the four aces in a span of just seven serves! Sophomore setter ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) notched a double-double with 11 digs and 34 assists.
Bluffton will suit up again when the women travel to the HCAC/OAC Crossover in Hanover, Ind. on Friday, Sept. 23 The Beavers open with Muskingum at 4 p.m. before an 8 p.m. matchup against Baldwin Wallace. Click here for the Tournament Website.
