Volleyball sweeps Transy for program win #900

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team was finally back in the Sommer Center this weekend, opening up with their first home Heartland Conference match this season against Transylvania University. The contest between the Beavers and the Pioneers went a quick three sets this afternoon.
From the beginning to the end, Bluffton controlled the action, downing Transylvania 25-13, 25-21 and 28-26. The Beavers improved to 15-7 overall and 3-0 in the Heartland Conference while Transy fell to 10-9 and 2-2 in the HCAC. It marked program victory #900 for Bluffton University volleyball!
Putting the ball away for the Beavers was MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) who hammered the Pioneers with 21 kills and an outstanding hitting percentage of .486. Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/Riverview) and Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) added seven kills apiece. Dominating the net defensively were the two middles, LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/Riverview). Weisgarber had one solo blocks and three block assists while Gibson also had one solo and two block assists.
Erin WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 37 assists and rammed home nine kills (.538 hitting percentage) of her own! The defense was led by SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) who picked up 23 digs. BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) also chipped in nine digs for the victors.
Bluffton will travel to Anderson University on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. for a conference matchup with the rival Ravens.
