Volleyball holds off Anderson for 4-0 HCAC mark

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Anderson University for a mid-week showdown on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Bluffton stayed perfect at 4-0 in the Heartland Conference while improving to 16-7 overall after dropping Anderson University 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-13). AU gave Bluffton all it could handle for three sets before dipping to 7-15 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
Anderson led from the start in the opener and held on for the 25-21 victory, but Bluffton battled back and took sets two and three by identical 25-23 scores. The visitors wrapped up their fourth conference win of the season with a 25-13 victory in the fourth set.
HCAC Player of the Week MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) was dialed in when the Beavers hit the court at Anderson, driving home a career-high 24 kills. McFarlin finished with just four errors for a .392 hitting percentage. Fellow senior LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) chipped in 16 kills for the victors. BETHANY MARTINI (Pickerington/North) also hit double figures with 12 kills on the night.
Sophomore setter ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) kept the offense running smoothly as she doled out 55 assists. She also got it done at the net with eight kills against just one error for a .412 hitting percentage. SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) shattered her career high with 33 digs for the winners. Lauren Weisgarber and COURTNEY ZIMPFER (Jackson Center) both tallied 11 digs. BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) and ABBY ROHRBACH (New Knoxville) chipped in two aces apiece.
The Beavers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Franklin College for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Grizzlies.
