Volleyball goes to 6-0 in HCAC

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team came out firing on all cylinders against visiting Manchester University in Wednesday's Heartland Conference match in the Sommer Center. From the 9-0 start in the lidlifter to the end of the night, Bluffton controlled the action, downing Manchester in three quick sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-20). The Beavers improved to 18-7 overall while staying perfect at 6-0 in the Heartland Conference. Manchester slipped to 12-11 and 4-4 in the HCAC.
Bluffton’s offense could not be stopped with a team hitting percentage of .255. LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) blistered the Spartans with 12 kills on just 15 attempts, finishing the match with a white-hot .733 hitting percentage! Fellow senior captain MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) ripped 14 winners for the victors.
ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 37 assists and helped the cause with three pickups and two kills. SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) fired five aces from the service line, three of which came in the first set when she torched the Spartans with nine straight serves. The junior libero also led the defense with 14 digs, while BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) added 12 pickups for the victors.
The Beavers have a quick turnaround as they will be back home on Friday, Oct. 21 to face the Wilmington College Quakers at 7 p.m. Come out and kick off a weekend full of Bluffton athletics as football welcomes Manchester on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. before Rose-Hulman invades the Sommer Center for a rare 2 p.m. Heartland Conference volleyball matchup on Sunday!
