Conceptual Mixed Media theme of two-person show
Bluffton University’s Grace Albrecht Gallery will host “Conceptual Mixed Media” by Colleen Kelsey and Jeremy Long.
Kelsey is an art adjunct professor at several local universities and director of Kelsey Projects designing engaging art pop-ups and community art projects. Kelsey has exhibited her work most recently at the Phyllis Weston Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Blue House Gallery, Dayton, Ohio.
Kelsey received her MFA in Painting from American University and her BFA from Asbury University. Long is an associate professor at Wright State University teaching painting and drawing. He is a member at the Bowery Gallery in New York City. He has shown his work both nationally and internationally with most recent exhibitions at the Rosewood Art Gallery, Kettering, Ohio, and The Blue House, Dayton, Ohio. Long received his MFA from American University and BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute.
“Stories and Studies” is their first two-person exhibition together. Long’s figure studies along with Kelsey’s watercolor drawings depict spatial forms through the activity of picture making.
Long describes his paintings as “an attempt to bring the structural and metaphoric thinking of abstraction to perceptual representation.” While Kelsey is interested in the “subconscious narrative through the study of archetypal characters within an invented landscape.”
Kelsey and Long live in Dayton, with their three children Emerson, Lila and Zoe.
Opening Monday, Nov. 28, the exhibit is free and open to the public through Dec. 16. Gallery hours in the Sauder Visual Arts Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A reception for the artist will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec.4.
