Big garage sale weekend in Bluffton
It's a Bluffton garage sale weekend thanks to the SHANNON Service Club and the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Here's the details:
S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club - at The Centre, 601 N. Main St.
• Friday, Feb. 24 - community craft and garage sale, 4:30 to 8 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 25, community craft and garage sale, 9 a.m. to noon
25/75 raffle drawing, 11:30 a.m.
Admission to the sale is $1 with children 12 and under free.
Here's how the club describes the event:
"All proceeds used locally through scholarships, needy families at Christmas and to persons who need an extra helping hand. Donations go to several community projects and organizations.”
"S.H.A.N.N.O.N. stands for Sharing Hopes And Nourishing Needs Of Neighbors. Booths are rented to individual sellers at The Centre, so items in the sale very depending on the sellers."
An additional fund-raiser is a 25/75 drawing. It will help defray medical and other costs that Deb Bollenbacher has experienced during her illness of Transverse Myelitis (inflammation of the spinal cord). Deb and her husband, Duane, are co-founders of the S.H.A.N.N.O.N. club.
Tickets for the drawing are sold during the weekend and the drawing is at 11:30 a.m., Saturday.
Senior Citizens Center - 132 N. Main St.
• Thursday, Feb. 23, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Friday, Feb. 24, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tonya Meyers, Center director, explains it this way: "The Bluffton Senior Center collects donations from its members and people in the community and then holds a large garage sale once a year as a fundraiser.
"Things collected include household items and collectables as many of the members are downsizing. There’s no clothing or shoes but you will find toys, games, athletic equipment and craft supplies as well as kitchen wares and bed and bath items.
Admission is free and all proceeds stay at the Bluffton Senior Center.
