University senior will showcase written work on March 14
Bluffton University senior Mackenzie Hoeckley will present “In the Palms of My Hands” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, in the Reading Room of Musselman Library.
Hoeckley, an art and writing major from Santa Barbara, Calif., will showcase some of her written work and discuss what she’s learned from the process.
Hoeckley compares writing poetry to crab fishing. “I take things I hear or see throughout the day, write them down in my notebook and leave them for a while to catch something bigger. When I come back, I can tell if the idea is worth continuing or not, and if it is, that's where the poem begins. Typically, my writing is about relationships, whether they be interpersonal, or the relationship human beings have with the world and universe around us.”
