Marie Welty was involved in many Pandora community activities
R. Marie Welty, 88, died March 4, 2017, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. Marie was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Findlay to the late Charles and Cecile (Davis) Leader. On March 18, 1949, she married Donald "Red" Welty who preceded her in death on July 16, 1976.
Marie graduated from Findlay High School and then worked as a candy striper at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. She later worked as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone, Pandora Dry Goods, Menke's Pharmacy, Pandora Lunch Box, and Pandora Medical Center and as a self-employed homemaker service.
She was a member of Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora, past member of Pandora EMS and former Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendene Grismore of Pandora; four grandchildren, April (Gary) Holland, Mitchel (Heather) Welty, Emily (Brian) Meyer, Kelli (Matthew) Bailey; five great-grandchildren, Jaron (Taylor), Avery, Garrison, Carter, Brayden; a sister, Marjorie Buchanan of North Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Welty of Findlay and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by a son, Charles "Chuck" Welty, a grandson, Anthony Grismore; two brothers, Glenn (Clara) Leader and Robert (Beverly) Leader; and a brother-in-law, Howard Buchanan.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Chaplain Rick Hart officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
