Baseball takes down Albion 7-3 in home opener
March 21, 2017
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team showed no signs of rust after a 10-day hiatus, topping Albion College 7-3 on Tuesday, March 21. The Beavers improved to 7-3 on the season, while Albion slipped to 7-4.
With the score knotted 2-2 after six frames, Bluffton's offense put it together for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh. Blake Fox (Berne, Ind./South Adams) and Colin Gregory (Fremont/Clyde) laced RBI singles following an Austin Prosser (Galion) sacrifice fly.
Albion made it 5-3 with a tally in the eighth, but Prosser tattooed a bases-loaded offering to the gap in left center for a two-run double and 7-3 spread. Senior Taylor Gambrell (Bowling Green) set the Britons down in the ninth, securing the victory.
Coach Grandey sent nine different hurlers to the mound on Tuesday and each one did his job. Sophomore Jack Bondy (Avon) fanned three in the seventh, picking up his first collegiate victory!
Prosser drove in three and Luke Hickey (Toledo/Whitmer) scored twice. Fox, Gregory and Clayton Siders (Delaware/Worthington Christian) all pounded two hits in the victory.
Bluffton kicks into high gear on Friday, March 24, when the Beavers welcome Anderson University for the first contest of a three-game series. The first pitch is slated for 4:15 at Memorial Field. Come out and support the Beavers as they open Heartland Conference play.
