Jordan reiterates opposition to current House Obamacare repeal bill
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe this morning to discuss congressional efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare. During the interview, Rep. Jordan reiterated his opposition to the American Health Care Act in its current form.
During the interview, Rep. Jordan made the following comments:
“Our job is to … do what we told the American people we were going to do when they gave us the privilege to serve, and this bill doesn’t do that. This bill doesn’t repeal Obamacare, and that fundamentally is why we’re opposed to it. And unless it changes I do not see the votes there to pass this legislation.
“Unless there’s real change, fundamental change, I do not see how they get to the 216 number that they need to pass it tomorrow night. … We’re still willing to talk. We want to do what we told the American people we were gonna do. We’re willing to work with them. But you have to do something that’s consistent with what we told the American people.
“Ask yourself a couple fundamental questions: Does it repeal Obamacare? No it doesn’t.
Even Krauthammer – who’s actually for the legislation – said it’s Obamacare-lite. Does it unite Republicans? No it doesn’t. Every major conservative group’s against it.
You’ve got senators opposed to it, house members opposed to it – it doesn’t unite Republicans. And does it, most importantly, lower premiums? Even CBO said premiums are gonna go up under this plan. So the fundamental tests, they just aren’t met.”
